Breakout and retest
Price closes beyond a well-tested range boundary, then revisits it without immediately falling back into the range.
Check: Look for follow-through in spot volume, controlled derivatives funding, and a clear invalidation inside the former range.
Trend pullback
A higher-timeframe trend remains intact while price retraces toward a prior breakout area, moving average, or liquidity zone.
Check: The setup weakens if structure breaks, the pullback becomes impulsive, or leverage builds while spot demand disappears.
Failed breakdown and reclaim
Price trades below support, cannot sustain acceptance there, and then reclaims the level with improving demand.
Check: Wait for confirmation. A brief wick is not enough, and liquidation-driven volatility can reverse twice before direction becomes clear.
Market structure varies by venue and timeframe. Confirm live data and your venue’s contract terms, and decide your maximum acceptable loss before acting.
